Attiya Faiz | Kenya and UK

Certified Personal Trainer | diet planner

My name is Attiya Faiz. I am a Muslim female born and raised in Mombasa Kenya but currently in the UK. My fitness journey started 6 years ago at a time when I was very self-conscious and had low self-confidence. I started working out at the gym for a few hours every day and slowly changing my diet. As the days went by, I started to see results and that’s when I said to myself that from now on, this is the life I choose for myself. FitwithAttiya came about when people around me saw my transformation and were inspired. They kept asking for diet plans and establishing routines. At first I did it simply as a friendly gesture to share my journey and help my friends and family. The circle got bigger over time and it started weighing me down, following people and stuff, that’s when I decided to do it on a bigger scale as a generative activity of income. Although my fees are minimal. I’m the CEO of FitwithAttiya, an online weight management program designed specifically for women. My program focuses on different aspects of weight issues and I work primarily with diets and exercise plans.

What were the main initial obstacles and how did you overcome them?
Among the challenges I have faced is acceptance. I come from a place where food is an integral part of the community. Any gathering, whether small or large, formal or informal, is not complete without delights. Most of them are simple carbohydrates, sweets and fried foods. Reducing these was difficult. People felt offended when I was offered and refused. It affected me but my determination was strong. They like me now after seeing my transformation and have even started to standardize healthier options on their menu. I ALWAYS TELL THEM (YOU AGAINST YOU) SO WORK HARD. I took it a step further by studying more about fitness and nutrition so I could help better women.

What books are you currently reading?

The books I am currently reading are THE GLUTE GUY AND LEANER THINNER AND STRONGER

What advice would you give to a future young or local and international talent?

All I can tell them is that patience and consistency are the key to success. Also being a hijabi fitness trainer is ok. Nobody should make you quit because you are Hijabi.
